Andrew Pratt

Andy Pratt has worked with Let's Grow Preston for many years. He's participated in events such as weaving willow, planting and juicing apples at the school where he volunteers.

Jeanette Smalley

Jeanette Smalley joined Let’s Grow Preston as a Trustee on 1 April 2025, which coincidentally is her birthday. She had known Annie for several years through her day job – as General Manager at CancerHelp (Preston) Ltd - and had a lot of admiration for her. She always felt when we met at 3rd sector events in Preston that our thinking was very alike, and was really happy to be asked to join the Board of Trustees. She sees her role as being another sounding board for Annie, a source of support and perhaps can offer some suggestions and time (in her own down time) around helping with grant funding applications. Her own organisation has received funding from the National Garden Scheme to redevelop the garden at our cancer support centre in Ribbleton (Vine House) so there was also an element of her looking to learn from Let’s Grow Preston as well. Anyone that knows Annie knows that one of her key messages is ‘Collaboration not competition’ and Jeanette completely agrees with her and believe that there is more that we can do across Preston in the 3rd sector by working together. She is also a Trustee at Preston Community Network.

Karen Wardle

Karen Wardle has had a life long interest in gardening and horticulture and since 2017 have been a volunteer gardener for a Dementia Charity. It is here that Annie and Let's Grow Preston and I met and she helped, along with other volunteers from Let's Grow, with a large project for a NHS carer's garden. Annie then helped me during the Covid period to develop other areas of the garden and Annie has frequently provided her expertise and plant donations which has brought colour and different perspectives around the gardens. I also bring to the role of Trustee a background knowledge and experience of social engagement across many communities in the North West.

Do you know and love the work Let’s Grow Preston does? Do you have some time to volunteer your skills to make a real difference in Preston?

Let’s Grow Preston (Charity No. 1159007) is looking for voluntary trustees to join our board and support our Chief Executive and staff team.

This is an unpaid voluntary role, with flexible involvement. Trustees are expected to:

Attend quarterly board meetings, reviewing reports in advance
Advocate for the charity within the community
Support events such as open days, fetes, and seminars

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need previous trustee experience; enthusiasm and commitment matter most! However, we’re especially interested in people with experience or insight in:

Finance and funding – helping ensure long-term financial sustainability
Human Resources / Employment Law – supporting staff development and good governance
Governance and strategy – shaping our direction for the next 20 years
IT and digital communication (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, web and social media)
Business planning and organisational development
Marketing, communications, and community engagement
